Our Challenges and Achievements
IPP has shared in the challenges brought on by the COVID19 pandemic but by the grace of God and Zoom meetings our club has remained reasonably active. We have also been able to honour our scholarship commitments to our students in nine secondary schools island-wide as well as our community service outreach to three state homes and one basic school.
Education – Tablet and laptop distribution
For the school year 2020/21 we provided tablets and laptops to our twenty one scholarship recipients instead of the usual cash bursaries that previously went toward transport and meals. The schools supported by IPP include: Dunoon Park Technical High School, Kingston High School, Papine High School, Ruseas’s High School, St Catherine High School, St Hilda’s high School, Vere Technical High School, Tacious Golding High School and St Jago High School. Three of the twenty one scholarships are funded by The Ellen Pearl Outreach Children’s Charity (EPOCC), one of our UK based partners. Additionally, 10 tablets were donated by IPP to the Maxfield Park Children’s Home for use in the Special Education Unit.
Community Outreach Projects
Despite being unable to fundraise during 2020, we were able to contribute cash and goods to a combined value of over $1,000,000 towards our community outreach projects. This, through IPP’s cash donations and the support of both our local and overseas partners; Mukkle Thrift (local) and The Windrush Family & Friends (UK based). Mukkle Thrift donated $530,000 to IPP for Scholarships and Community outreach; $200,000 towards IPP’s scholarship fund and the remainder towards Community projects in state homes including Homestead Place of Safety for Girls, Maxfield Park Children’s Home and another, not presently supported by IPP, Yadel Home for Children in Old Harbour.
The Windrush Family & Friends refurbished the Glenhope Nursery to a value of over $600,000 replacing cribs, donating chest of drawers, a 1,000 gal water tank, educational toys and commissioning a mural for the nursery walls to make the space more baby-friendly.
The year ahead
COVID19 will no-doubt dictate. We will nonetheless do all we can to continue to provide support to those who depend on our efforts.
