On May 18, 2024, Maxfield Park Children’s Home was filled with joy and excitement as children participated in a delightful Fun Day organized by IPP & Windrush. The event, which kicked off at noon, saw children eagerly enjoying a bounce house, despite the soaring temperatures. Caregivers relaxed under the shade of a large tree, engaging in conversations while volunteers encouraged more children to join the festivities.
The Fun Day at Maxfield Park Children’s Home featured delightful snacks, including snow cones, popcorn, and hot dogs. These treats added to the festive atmosphere, ensuring the children had a memorable and enjoyable experience.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces among the caregivers, who expressed their pleasure in seeing the children enjoying themselves. Around 2 PM, Ms. Palmer, the supervisor, arrived and expressed her gratitude to IPP for organizing this special day.
During a walk around the grounds, a past project completed by IPP with the assistance of the German Embassy was revisited. The tiling at the entrance of the babies’ building remained intact, a testament to their efforts, even though the area is now closed, with the infants relocated to Glenhope. Additionally, a visit to the kitchen allowed for a meeting with the chef and the delivery of donated sweet potatoes for the children.
Maxfield Park’s expansive property holds immense potential for further activities. With more volunteers and organizers, the children could engage in sports, gardening, and other enriching endeavors. This Fun Day served as a wonderful reminder of the joy and positive impact that community support can bring to the lives of these youngsters.
